“A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step.” -Lao Tzu
A point is a singular dot on a piece of paper. Continue drawing points that connect and you will be drawing a line. Increase the size of the beginning and ending points to note where the line begins and ends and you will have created a line segment.
Just as a line is made up of a series of points, so are our lives. Our personal line represents events, growth, changes, etc. that occur during our life's journey. Some of us may find that our life lines are quite thin. In that case, we need to locate our primary focus. Limited interests can be represented by a very thin line.
The more we involve ourselves with new ideas, experiences, interests, and people, the wider our journey line will appear. It is important to become engaged in things outside ourselves. We develop friendships, support systems, more ways to spend leisure time, and a broader spectrum of ideas.
Back to the original point. The point is where you are right now. Regardless of what is going on in your life, this place, right here, right now, is where you begin to create the rest of your life. A masterpiece begins when the tip of a pencil or paintbrush makes first contact with the canvas. You, as the artist of your life, begin at the point where you are standing. Just as the visual artist touches the canvas with intention, you will do the same.
Your intention may be to make new friends, start a new hobby, lose ten pounds, write a short story, go for daily walks, or read a new novel. It is something you intend to do to move your life forward in a positve direction. Although you may be taking part in more than one new activity, for now, name one thing which you intend to do for personal growth and fullfilment.
My intention is_______________________________________________________
Yay! You have taken the first step in Painting a Living Masterpiece. You are moving from your point of origin toward an intended destination.
